    Discovery 1 tidy up

    Hi All,

I'm trying to give Daphne ('97 Discovery 1A) a bit of a spruce -up after her recent 'close encounter' with a tree.

A couple of years ago we had her roof re-sprayed and, while they took care, the drip rail mouldings (plastic trims) were damaged and are now split and looking very sad.

Now, our 'parts donor' vehicle has a full set of undamaged mouldings. So, does anyone know how to remove the mouldings from one vehicle and fit them to another without splitting them? Maybe applying gentle heat with a hot air gun? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

Gentle heat might be the go, not sure what they use to stick these strips on, if at all, usually its just the clips over the joins - but mine always seem to go loose before I glue them in place. If a previous owner has used a poyurethane its going to be tough to remove. If you use any chemicals, try some of the citrus / eucalyptus based solvents which are quite good for adhesives. Kind of drool it in and let it penetrate while you apply gentle pressure. When reapplying to the new vehicle, make sure you clean the strips (inside) and the sills well with an alcohol based cleaner to remove traces of old gunk and solvent. Run a fine bead of poly (Sika, Parfix etc) on the inside of the strip before you install to help it stay in place for the long term.
