It could be just a wheel sensor.

If you do need an abs modulator, I purchased a 2004 second hand one for $350 from the USA ( ebay ). If you want the name of this mob then PM me.

You can buy brand new for the UK for about 1200 pounds or you can find second hand in aust for between 1-2 K.

I have heard of some people repairing them and I have heard of some people fixing the issue by having their fluids power flushed.

You do need to have you car connectec to a test book computer to powerflush or install the modulator to enable all potential air to be removed.

There are plenty of posts about this issue. Have a look. You will get alot of useful information.

How long has your vehicle been out of warranty?
A dealer can submit a "goodwill" claim if your services have been done at LR dealers.
A 6000.-- part has to be a modulator, the fault code was probably "shuttle valve switch failure". Nothing you can do to fix it, the modulators are a sealed unit and can not be serviced.
Experiences with second hand ones weren't very good, such a unit can cause more trouble than you already have.
Go back to your dealer and ask them to submit a goodwill claim.

But the dealer hasn't put the car on Testbook (he wants to charge $150 to do so) - so the fault code is still unknown.

It sounds like your dealer is abusing you for being in an isolated market.
My local LR dealer does not charge for reading test codes or resetting ABS faults on the computer as he reckons no matter what, you can't be sure you have fixed it.

Do you have access to a workshop manula CD ROM? (RAVE)

I have recently started to experience the same problem on my 01 Disco TD5 auto.
I had front and rear brakes replaced about three weeks ago. The next day went up to Lake lyall and carried out some water crossing.
Soon after noticed the Abs, TC and HDC lights to come on.
Thought I might have got a connection some where wet.
It has continued for the past three weeks intermittently. Now
i am thinking it could be a ABS sensor. Any suggestions.

Are they genuine parts?
Aftermarket brake rotors and pads can cause brake squeal or vibrations that upset the sensor readings due to the harmonics travelling up the sensor.
Get your vehicle on TestBook and see what fault is logged in the ABS unit. If the fault is "sensor signal erratic", aftermarket brakes could be the cause. If the fault is "sensor open circuit" or "electrical fault", the sensor might be faulty. Don't throw a sensor on it just for the hell of it, get it checked out.

To test the wheel speed sensors, ABS sensors on a S2 Disco is very easy.
Locate the sensor lead were it comes out of the hub and trace the lead back to it's plug, disconnect the plug. Inside the plug of the sensor you will see two female sockets, connect to these sockets with an ohm meter or if you do not have one a test light.. Starting from the wheel hub wiggle the lead and watch to see if the meter goes to open circuit or if using a test light watch for the lamp to flicker or go out., if this happens then the sensor lead is faulty and will have to be replaced.
Unfortunately the lead is only supplied with the complete hub assembly.
