price of short 4.6l with a liner problem?

Ok, I'm asking this because... apart from the 90 Vogue I own, I also have a 80 2 door RR! (yes, only because the 90 is a better car to drive daily with ABS etc, esp, for the wife, but I've always loved the look of the 2 door.. and yes, friends and family say I'm a nutter, and should have learned my lesson after purchasing the first RR)
Since I'm putting a LS-1 in the 90, I'd like to put the efi motor in the 80 (rather than sell it of on e-bay), but then I thought... a 4.6L bottom end would be more fun than repairing the 3.9... so, I phoned around- and so far I've been quoted $1K for a short 4.6L with a liner thats moved (apparantly best to re-sleeve all 8 cylinders). Does that sound like a fair price? (or is it just me that thinks $1k for a short block that needs machining is a lot! LOL)

Steer well clear from it and keep the 3.9, cheaper and easier to re ring that than stuff around with ****ed liners - in the end you will wish you had bought a new 4.6 short.

A fellow club member did this with his Disco 1.
He ruefully now says it would have been cheaper for a new block.
apparently he had enormous trouble getting +20thou pistons and had to have them custom made. I think you need 20 thou pistons because the stepped sleeves are Jag ones that end up 20thou bigger than standard.
So be careful and ensure you can do what you want to do if you do go with a sleeved 4.6.
I think in UK they now make specific sleeves as one of the reconditioners are advertising, and I doubt they could have a competitive price if they were using custom pistons.

I have a 4.6 that I took out of my P38A. I wouldn't mind refurbishing it for my County. One day - maybe.

well since the 3.9 has a stuffed bore/liner from the dropped valve, I guess I will keep the 80 RR with its original (and so far reliable!?!) 3.5L..
