    Disco fuel pump howl

My 1993 V8 disco has developed a howling noise which I think is from the fuel pump. Am I heading for trouble or is this normal for a V8 with 307X kms on the clock?

I thank you for any advise you can give me.

I would hate to be out in the sticks somewhere and stuck with a buggered pump.

    mine only lasted 200thou!
all the little gritty bits that come through the bowser and into your
tank eventually wear out the comutator and the brushes.
the noise could be the rubber feet it sits on in its housing, if they have
broken then its just vibrating on the housing.

its easy to get out, lift carpet, undo 2 14mm hoses and a plug, then
unscrew the big ring. carefull when lifting out you dont want to
    break the float off.

i replaced mine with a VN commadore one for $140 from ripco.

    cheers phil

  Thanks for the info fellas. After reading your replys to my problem, it dawned on me that my fuel tank is very low at the moment.
Could it be that with only a little fuel in the tank that it [the pump] might be resonating because of old mounting rubbers. Or is this a long bow to draw. The pension cheque has now come through so I will fill it up tomorrow and see if the noise improves.

    thanks for the feedback

Guess what? Full fuel tank---- no noise----- or am I just fooling myself

I will keep an eye on it until the tank gets low again and let the forum know.
