Has anyone taken Series 2 panels and put them on a Series 3? Are they the same and just bolt straight on? I have a 1979 SWB S3 and have bought an old S2 with amazingly straight panels so want to upgrade mine. Peace/Simon

Should Change over no probs.You need to check with the Transport people,I think you will find the headlights were shifted out on to the gaurd as a design rule.

Almost all panels are a straight swap. The exceptions are the front mudguards, which have a different arrangement for the inner guards to give room for the power brakes and the headlights on them, the radiator panel, which except late S2a differs in the headlights, and the bulkhead, which has numerous differences due to the dash and windscreen hinges.
As some examples, my S2a has S3 bonnet, doors, cab and tailgate.
Note that changing headlight position is probably not legal, but you can, by drilling out spot welds and re rivetting, fit the front panel off the S3 guards onto the S2 guards.

Yes the panels are interchangable, the doors are the same, hinges will bolt up the same as 2a type, the Front guards are interchangeable, and if you do as JDNSW has advised, you can change the front and side outerskins of the mudguard by drilling out the spotwelds BUT replace them with BRASS screws and nuts with spring washers, the army 2&2a front guards were screw togetherquicker battle damage repair,
The rear tubs are interchangable you only need to drill the extra hole for the reverseing lights all wiring is compatable, if you have not got Boosted Brakes on your SWB, I would highly recommend that you fit them, the inner guards differ so you may have to source a Ser 3 LWB one, as it has the cutout for the booster pedal box, the best way to do it is to source a SER 3 LWB boosted brake unit complete I.E. pedal assembly complete just unbolt by the 6 setscrews inthe foot well, first disconnect the hydraulic line at the Cylinder, and the Vacc hose, if you need the fitting on the Manifold or Carby base get that too, That will give you pedal,pedalbox,booster&masterCylinder, Have you got a donor vehicle :?: is it a SWB or LWB ? If so I will give you some tips on upgrading the whole brake system.
Use of brass screws and nuts may help you to undo them later, but will encourage electrolytic corrosion of the aluminium panels. In most cases the best method would be aluminium rivets, or if you really want to use screws, use stainless steel, preferably with nylon insulating washers (from your boat chandler).Originally posted by UncleHo
