    jumping gauge needles

Have noticed on starting, that some times my speedo needle jumps up to around the 80-100kmh mark, fuel gauge sometimes does a similar thing, anyone else experienced this?

Not on starting. But on turning off the ignition, sometimes ... and I say sometimes. The speedo needle jumps up to about 80.

I have a vague recollection it only started after having a turbo timer installed not long after buying new, but can't be sure of that.

    Cheers

My speedo needle has started wobbling! Must have known this subject was coming up. At an indicated 60km/h it shows 45 - 75, but not all the time, weird, but it's a Discovery.

Can be caused by the cable being frayed in places. The wire catches and winds up slowing the speed down, when it releases the speed jumps. Pull the cable out and have a look. Takes about 10 min and you can lube the cable while your at it.
Not applicable if you have an electronic speedo.

If it's electric then check your earths, especialy if your other gauges are playing up.

    is it electronic or cable...?

if its cable....its probably the angle drive on the back of the speedo.....

if its electronic....it could be anything....even the alternator on its last legs...</span>

Thanks Zook, How's Neutral Bay and the Oaks at Xmas?

93 V8 Disco 1 probably has a cable jobbie, I'll check it out while I'm changing the oil pressure switch, which started leaking a few days back, but a new one arrived overnight from Syd, (hooray) so as Tyrepower said it's probably a lube job. Cheers guys, its beer time . GQ
