When a mate was driving trucks, they loaded his Isuzu rigid one friday, ready to go early monday morning, and parked it in the shed. Locked up and no one noticed the truck still running (its just the torbo timer.......) It was still running when he got there on monday morning.......

    Engine rebuild soon followed......

Agree with the concept here. But 150 - it would take ages to get my EGT to 150 after any length of hot running.

I let mine idle down to about 280 - that can take a few minutes under some conditions.

The 280 figure is arbitary - the idea just designed to protect the turbo bearings to some degree.
Where did the 150 figure come from?

    thanks

Ditto, used to find the same with the Tdi, just used to let it idle a little after a hard run and the turbo is still ok at 330,00km with a very aggressive tune.

I don't actually own a diesel but have fitted a few EGT gauges for other people. It's just a number that reflects the long down hill road to my place. If your number reflects a good turn off point for your engine than that's fine by me.

Oh and that's Celsius not Farenheit.

She blew a bit of smoke and knocked a couple of times but a good ''Italian Tune'' up over the Ophthalmia Ranges north of town fixed it.It's done another 90K since then, doesn't use oil, coolant nothing. The Tdi kicks arse. Pat

The keyshut down is deliberately the last thing I do after putting sunnys away, seat belt, hand brake, grabbing what ever. So 5-10 seconds of idling.

I never even think twice about shutting down the Vogue. At home it has been reversed into the driveway after waiting for the electric gates, so has been at idle for probably 30 seconds. Even when highway driving the time taken to slow to a halt would be enough to let things slow / cool down. I also change the engine oil and filter every 10 000km because it is easy and cheap to do.
