    I-Max winch

You do realise that the 14500lbs. cap. of this winch is only available at the first layer of rope on the drum, in normal use with 1 or 2 layers of rope out off the drum that your pulling capacity is down around half of the advertised cap. load.
I've had no experience with this brand winch, but I can recommend Runva, I have one on my truck and one on my Disco and I use them commercially and have not had a problem, I am not associated with Runva, just a satisfied customer, Regards Frank.

For that price (including delivery) I wouldn't expect much from it!!
With winches you usually get what you pay for.

Also the cheap Chinese winch`s are a bit hit or miss on the cheapies id pass on that and spend a few hundred more and go the likes of a Runva which has a really good reputation

Not always. The Warn I took off my car was a POS. It wasn't used much, and failed the one time I REALLY needed it. That said, I'm not too sure of the budget replacement one I have now, but I'm yet to really rest it.

What was the cause of the failure??

From what I read all electric winches need to be tinkered with..... dis-assembled, greased, sealed, solenoids/electrical connections.

Although I have only owned PTO winches but have seen a few different electric winches not work when needed due to mainly maintenance.

Yeah, it was greased etc when I got it, as it was in pretty poor shape, with water damage to the gears etc. The waterproofing was non existent.

It failed due to the endplate cracking, which jammed it solid.

The winch rope in general is the bees knees and much better than metal cable. As for quality, you get what you pay for, the way I justified buying a RROR (Road Runner Offroad) winch was a winch is essentially insurance. I wanted to be sure it was going to work when required.

I heard about runva too that is a good winch. Do you have to do maintenance regularly with runva? I heard if you do regular maintenance the winch will last.

    I also found this. Thoughts?

All electric winches are a bit like Telstra pre paid, If you don't use it you loose it.
All you have to do is pull out 30-40 feet of rope/wire off the winch about once a month and wind it back onto the winch.
This should remove any condensation that may have built up inside the motor/gearbox and it will keep the internals lubricated and free of corrosion.
Winches are just like any other part of your truck and if you don't maintain them they will most likely fail regardless of who manufactured them.
