Country of origin
Gday all,
I have heard that some Defenders delivered to Aust are made in Africa and some in England, is this true and how can you tell. Have also heard african ones are better quality.

its true, African ones appear to not be put together as well, with regard to bodywork and painting, apparently all Xtreme defenders which came standard with the tube sidesteps are of Sth African origin, as well as unusual colours ie. Silver. Have a look at your windscreen frame, if you can see lines like brushstrokes under the paint, youll know what I'm talking about. Motors and gearboxes etc, no dramas.

Mine is a Sth African Build. Fit and finish is generally very good. Having said that, the side doors are not a good fit. (terrible door locks on the body do not help). Other than that I am very happy with it.

Yeh, I agree, still happy with the vehicle, only had it pointed out to me the other day, its a Defender, who gives a rats about the finish.

Yours sounds like Sollihull? Mine is SALLDVB. (also has country of origin on the seat box, drivers door side by the tyre placard).

Thanks for that now I know the difference.
As for the predenting I think it adds to the tough look and even with metallic paint you cant tell after market from OE.

there was a thread on here a while ago that let you type in your chassis number
and it would tell you where it was built and all the other info contained within
the chassis number....
