It's done this since the car was serviced recently. I just want to know what the causes might be so I don't end up being one of those PITA customers who start with "Ever since you..."

If you are talking about the standard one, its useless as a high temp warning anyway. I'm hoping you know that by the time it moves into the caution/danger zone it will be too late and damage done.
