    Abs sensor problems

    Hi all
About a year ago I had the tc and abs lights come up on my 2004 defender.
A plug into a nanocom said rear abs sensor fault, cool no need to change just now I'll leave it for a while.
Then the time came to do some work on the car, brakes needed doing so new discs and pads for the front, and the rear. Although the rear was not as simple as the car has a sals transplant and I couldn't find any abs discs so I drilled some discs to fit the rings using the old discs as a template.
    All good.
Next new abs sensor, I couldn't stomach the $1000 price for genuine so got a Bearmach brand, fitted it , hooked up the nanocom it cleared the fault but it immediately came back.
Pulled the sensor back out wiped some of the grease of the tip and reinstalled.
Hooked up nanocom, cleared fault , lights went out, then the tc started breaking the suspect wheel intermittently and tc and abs lights came back.
Pulled of hub and I think the abs ring was not seated square as there was grease marks on only 20% of it , undid the ring and clocked it until it sat square, hub back on , multi meter on the pins of the sensor gives a fluctuating reading of between 88 and 105 when rotating the wheel.
When I first started turning the hub I could hear the sensor touching the ring but then the noise diminished to a light scrape and I assume it will wear or push its way to create the air gap.
Hook up to nanocom clear fault, lights go away , drive and tc light comes on under overrun then goes out comes back on tc starts to brake the wheel light comes back on then goes away then comes back on and stays on.
I am thinking that the abs ring may not be sitting true and was wondering if factory discs have a machined surfzce that it sits on or could it be shimmed.
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated

You can see it's touching between 7-8 o'clock
I'll shim it up around the clock face to bring them all up to 43 mm

Probably explain why it's not sitting flat, I'll Open it up a bit.
