    BCU odometer sync D2

    Hi all,
has anybody successfully synced the kms stored on the BCU across to the odometer.

Ive read the BBS/nanocom info and a number of posts across different forums. Essentially I cant find posts where the sync has been successful.

The story -my instrument cluster has a cold weather fault. It will not power the main gauges until it gets above 10 degrees.
I have proven the cluster is the problem with higher kms spare cluster fitted

I need to have my 49000km BCU info saved on the 166000km cluster ( odometer)
I know it will self sync after 16 cycles - but will it increase the BCU kms to 166 or reduce the cluster kms to 49?

Nanocom gives me the choice of
sync BCU to odometer or sync Odometer to BCU.
Which unit will be considered the primary/master data?
First glance it seems obvious but further thought it is also ambiguous.
I dont want to gain 120km from activating the wrong process, so looking for actual experience rather than cut and paste info that I already have.

    thanks

I can't supply first hand experience, as mine was done by a workshop with Autoloogic, and I'm not going to bore you with speculation. If you find out from a source other than Aulro, could you please post your findings here?

I've done it few times for friends, the gist is that you can synk only upwards if you see what i mean so if the mileage in the odometer's memory is higher you can save this in the BCU or if the mileage stored in the BCU is higher you can set the odometer to that, it will not do anything the other way around to let you reduce mileage on the odometer or BCU memory, so in your case the 166K will be saved in the BCU unless you are skilled enough to swap the odometer's memory chips between the clusters but i can't help with that as long as i dont have an internal diagram of the instrument pack.

Yup if you only have 46k on your bcu you will need a speedo with less than that in order to program it up to 46k. There is no going back... i have only come across 1 way in which it was done; swapping out the bcu and instrument cluster from a lower km car. This is easy to detect as all you need to do is interrogate the bcu and check the vin matches.

    BCU odometer sync D2

    Great news.... hmm.
Thanks guys I'lll try and find a repairer in Aust or a really low km cluster.

There is a UK mob who do it so someone in Oz must be able to fix the issue for me.

I'm the meantime if anyone has or knows of cluster with less than 50k on it please PM
    me.

    Thanks again for the clarity.

If you find a skilled electronist he should be able to identify and swap the odometer memory chips in the clusters IMO, be aware that if you drive it much this way the BCU will ''addopt" the higher mileage from the odometer without tester involvment then even if you get a lower mileage cluster you'l get the 166K on it from the BCU if you synk it.

Finding a second hand 40K ODO is going to be difficult due the the age of those vehicles. Most 14-18 year old vehicles cover more than that over that time.

    Indeed.
I had a few surprised responses from the big name wreckers when I rang around today.

I've sent the cluster to a repairer in NSW who is confident of fixing my problem and keeping the odo in tact.

    I hope he is correct,
I will update next week or so when it is due back.
