    Doesn't a Defender have a Salisbury.
Its my understanding, though I have never done it that the Rangie and Defender Salisbury are a straight change over, ie you can put the whole Rangie axle under the Defender or vice versa as the spring pad position, trailing arms , centre ball joint are the same. But if it is a Salisbury the axle length will probably be different..
Again I am not certain, but if it is the later light duty axle , then logic suggests it would fit,but then Land Rover is rarely logical.
So I probably haven't helped at all.

Surely you could ask Jac Macnamara. He did make and sell the things to you. 8O

Rangieman, you haven't really given the most basidc information to give an answer.
1 Is your rear axle a Salisbury. You can tell by sticking your head underneath the back and looking to see if it has a bolt on cover plate. If it is a Salisbury , Range Rover axles will NOT fit.

2 Later Defenders had a different lighter duty axle, and I do not know whether the Range Rover axles will fit.

3 The point I was also trying to make is that its entirely possible in both cases that you can switch the entire axle. Whether you want to do this with a Salisbury is a moot point, but I think the later axle is just a Rangie axle with a dual crosshaft diff. I am not sure of this however . You would have to get out with a tape measure and see if the track, spring pads, etc are exactly the same.

ok here is the blurb im about over this .

as states in my profile (underneath my post) macnamara diffs and axles in my rangie , banjo type diff (ok) got that

and i have which i didnt mention (sorry) a95 defender which i am smart enough to know has a salisbury diff .

now here we go again the defender has a arb diff lock but it has standard axles .

now i asked if the rangie axles are the same length as a defender i know the splines are the same i just would like to know if the length is the same

thankyou for trying to sort it out

it is just easier to to ring a work shop i think
