    Synthetic oil - AAA

AAA Spills the Truth on Oil Changes | AAA NewsRoom

    Cheers

PS There is a 50 something page full report on the test I am yet to read but the conclusion is, in part "On average, synthetic oils outperformed conventional oils in the conducted tests by 47 percent. The selected tests evaluated shear stability, deposit formation, volatility, cold temperature pumpability, oxidation resistance, and oxidation-induced rheological changes"

I recently watched an episode of Dirty Jobs, the segment was on Rendering, in other words the glue factory where animal carcasses are processed . Dead farm animals , road kill are rendered down, the segment showed a whole dead cow getting lowered into a redering machine, the out put was boiled and made into chicken feed, blood and bone, oil for cosmetics and wait for it for Synthetic motor oil!

Algae and cows. Nearly all oil and gas came from blue green algae.

I used to think the same as you.

Esters are made by reacting fat/oil with acids under heat.
Animal fat, vegetable oil, basically almost any naturally occurring and biodegradable fat or oil are the basis of some of your syn oils.

After seeing a whole cow maggots and all go through the process there isn't a lot of fat/oil coming out the other end, so it would take a lot of cows, horses and other road kill to make a lot of oil, maybe that's why synthetic is so expensive.
