I have a 2 inch face double gauge for engine water temp and oil pressure. Probably made by Smiths but has Land Rover on it. Capillary tube is broken near the sender end. As it is a sort of collectable, would like to get it repaired if practicable even if cost is the order of that for generic new gauges. Have asked a Land Rover specialist and an automotive instrument place about it. They send them away. Would prefer to deal direct with a competent repairer who does these jobs. Any suggestions on who to try? Maybe starting with possibilities in Northern Victoria where I am, Southern NSW and Melbourne.
This gauge looks like Land Rover accessory and probably was installed after head on 1961 LWB was replaced in 1975. Mounting plate was left of instrument panel, which made it somewhat difficult to read easily in right hand drive vehicle. Have modified and moved it to right side into driver's line of sight. Need to try gauge for fit as probably more tidy to have capillary tube shortened before reconnecting as sender goes into right side of front of head under thermostat housing. Mug who did original installation probably 40 years ago had it going into T piece into thermostat housing along with return line from heater. Not very smart. Would have given false low reading as well as being a flow restrictor and useless if water level dropped below its high location.
