    Yeah I thought the same and from memory, I tried 5mm square foam and this seems to be okay. It does squash down a fair bit - obviously depending on the foam density - but I used fairly standard foam and it seems to be okay. If you are heading on a big trip with some water crossings then I think some gaffer tape is the go for a complete seal.

    The gaffer tape fixes all things! my rear bar is half gaffer tape Half plastic!
