Thread: Buying Cooper tyres....Any suggestions?

Very good point about the mixed history, also about BFG and Goodyear, whether or not they performed as well as others in certain conditions, you really don't hear too much about actual defective products delaminating etc.

The MTR Kevlar looked great but I was trying not to go full mud, but it's not going to be a daily driver or anything like that, it will however most likely do some touring so it's not going to be all off road either, hence wanting an all terrain or more so a hybrid. The ST Maxx was high on the list and the Mickey Thompson ATZP3 would have been too but they didn't have them in my size.

Then I'm back to a BFG KO2 (probably not a KM2 at this stage) or like I said the MTR/Kevlar, but that's pretty much a mud anyway.

I still like the ST Maxx but you're right, they do have the history that others don't seem to.

The ST Maxx is a much milder tread than the BFGs, which are seriously heavy duty.
Have you considered others such as Bridgestone, Toyo, Maxis and Hankook. They should all be cheaper.

Milder than the muds or the all terraints? The ST Maxx are definitely more aggressive than the KO2 tyres, although the KO2s are pretty great, I just wanted something halfway between an all terrain and a mud.

I did check out all the brands, at one point I was going to get some General Grabbers, but I've at least narrowed it down to the few brands I've mentioned already, although I do hear Toyos have a lot of loyal fans and with good reason.

love my coopers and will be buying them again.

My coopers were great, for 20,000km, then they went hard, were dead set scary in the wet, treads started scalloping, 2 got eggs in the side wall, then i put some bf's on.
This was about 5 years ago though

I'm still on Coopers after 15 odd years & more sets than I can remember.

Thats expensive.

I had four 245/75/16 ST MAXX fitted for $312 each last Saturday at my local TyrePower.

I had to buy one a month ago in Tom Price, I had a rock go through the tread of a Bridgestone MT and the ST MAXX was all I could get in the size I need. That was $365 fitted but also included a $15 tyre disposal charge.

Make sure you check out the load ratings on tyres. I was surprised to see how high the rating is on the original General Grabbers on my Defender. This is a good thing.
