neither oiled foam or oiled cotton gauze filter anywhere near as well as a fibrous (cellulose/paper) type filter.
They flow well, but most filters flow more than a standard engine requires.

The thread runs for three pages, but answers most of your questions, and has some excellent test results to back up what he is saying.
