					Pretty sure that diamond chains make less noise on sealed roads and give a smoother ride when digging through the snow to tarmac below.
Bar chains go clunk, clunk, clunk.
Don't know which one would dig better, or clear mud better.
I'd be guessing the one with more surface area/chain hitting the mud.

 I'm glad someone's on the ball, as I've been a bit busy & sorry for long delayed answer which has been answered correctly.
Diamond is a compramise for noise & safety driving on tar.
Try and get hold of an ex army type, large & chunky chain the most magic thing to have on in serious country when used correctly & I emphasize correctly. Minimal damage when used correctly, no more than some fool giving it a bootfull on a clay slope cutting up the track, nice & steady with chains.....easy 8)  Pressures must be lowered to 20 - 22lb & chains checked & retensioned often.
Only experience will let you get it right.
