I would say yes to that. Very cool sound in my opinion
Haha I wasn't being sarcastic, I drive one and I love the sound they make, they sound like real diesel cars and I'd love it if that sound was a little louder...so long as there are no drones, I hate drones, once owned a 1967 XR Falcon with a 289 V8 and it was great, until you were going that right speed up a hill and the drone from the slightly bigger exhaust was so annoying!
I've been dailying mine for a week now as my daily is broken. To be honest stock exhuast (60mm) with no mufflers is pretty horrible. Sure there no drone but its loud and for a daily around town i wouldnt do it. However as a weekender its ok i'll probably live with it. Though today whilst driving it i considered putting a resi in the back to quieten it down.
From my experience the rear muffler had no affect on sound whilst the center is heavy and seems to most of the work. Remove the center and leave the rear.
Just had a bit of a good discovery (no pun intended honest) while trawling this forum searching for things about intercooler upgrades, and came across what I was looking for a while ago, that is a bit of history about my car because I know the previous owner (Big Guy) did heaps of work on it. I found a receipt from Triumph Rover Spares in my bunch of crap that was for an intercooler kit (hoses etc.) but nothing about an actual intercooler, but this morning I just stumbled upon this post from BigGuy from back in 2010 (probably when I was in talks with him about buying the car maybe, hence his little comment about people buying the car from interstate haha):
Larger intercooler installation 300Tdi
(see last post at bottom of page)
So apparently Triumph Rover Spares (TRS) installed an upgraded intercooler in my Disco and it sounds like they're really good ones too. I did think there was something better in there, not only because I vaguely remember Frank (BigGuy) telling me he had put one in but because when you look at it under the bonnet it's very nice and shiny looking and doesn't look twenty years old...I just couldn't find a receipt for it...but HA now I have some info!!! I'm going to ask TRS to see if they still have records of everything they did to that car and hopefully they'll give them to me.
Oh well, that's a nice find :)
Good one.
65kw at the wheels indicates a moderate tune I would say. A bit of scope for a few more kw for you if you want it.
Mine is not extreme (as judged by how hard I have to try to get EGT above 700) and at it dyno'd at a bit above 70kw ( rear wheels, front drive shaft off) a few years ago.
Disclaimer is that yours might have been tested on a 4 wheel dyno in which case the resistance of the front diff and CVs had to be overcome.
Wouldn't it be easier/cheaper to upgrade the truck to a good D1/D2 V8 if you need a truck with more "Poke" ?
And a definite "no" considering the amount of all the other work that's been done to my Tdi. I used to have a V8 D1, '98 model, I prefer the Diesel :D
