All those people making disparaging comments about the performance of the 300tdi need to spend more time driving a Series Land Rover to get a whole new perspective.

I'm actually happy with the way mine performs and I'm not trying to turn it into a race car. I kind of just want a good tune to make sure it's running at it's optimum, for fueling and EGT and efficiency reasons, and to just make sure that whoever has "tweaked" it prior to now hasn't done anything silly to it.
If doing that means it runs a little better then great, but that's not the aim...I can see how that may have looked like my aim from early posts though so my bad![]()
A Dyno for a 300tdi .... mwwahhaaaa, comon someone is breathing in too much diesel fumes...
*A decent diesel mechanic that is say over 30 should quite easily and correctly adjust an old school injector pump.
*If its "got great power and economy" but it blows black smoke, it simply hasnt been done right.
*A 300tdi should be the factory "puff" of smoke on start up, and MAYBE a small amount of black under full noise, but clouds of black will be the quickest way to kill it.
All said and done, the 300tdi is an old school diesel engine, there really is nothing to go wrong and cheap to repair.

just down the road from LRA is a diesel shop with s dyno
turbo engineering I think
did some work on my 200tdi about 10 years sgo
i was quite happy with their service and prices
Ray knew his stuff
have you looked at the boost pins available from the UK?
I found larger free flowing exhaust, tweaking pump and proper service made the 200 more responsive.
check and set boost levels as well.
proper egt. into the exh manifold is imperative for safety
Guard venting helped run cooler as well
exh wrap the first metre out of the engine bay as well

Id take advice that a good tune is as good as a 300 needs, yrs ago I went to a well known landy shed in Melbourne and purchased a ‘up grade kit’ included change over pump and turbo, yep it was a rocket ship .. and just like the Columbia it blue up, over fuel and boost. New every thing under the hood (@+$7000) now and all std and hope it’ll go for ever![]()
Hey guys greetings from the UK.
As the others have said thats a lot of money for a simple process... my dealers charge £50-100 to get up the injection pump for better performance, the performance parts I supply for the pumps are another £100 and 3 runs on a local 4wd dyno are £75.
My advice is get a reliable EGT gauge and boost gauge then have a read of this:
Turning up the pre 94 Ram diesel injector pump
If you want better results after than then you can increase the boost to 18-20psi and install a Boost Pin and Dynamic Timing Advance Spacer kit.
You can get further details of those here:

Hopefully this helps you out, feel free to drop me a line for any more advice![]()
