    Name that ignition coil!

Hi guys, I'm trying to work through some tuning issues, and half the problem is I don't know the details of key parts that were installed by POs.

The rangie is runny what I'm led to believe is a stroked p76 V8 (can't find the engine # to confirm), with holley projection 2d (almost certain) and wolf v4x ECU. Half the problems to date stem from the sensors not being calibrated accurately in the ECU...

    Anyway, onto my current issue.

The dwell is currently fixed at 3ms and I'm looking to increase it a bit without cooking the coil. There's an MSD sticker in the engine bay, and I've searched the MSD website, but nothing looks the same as is installed.

Can anyone shed some light on what's installed? Also if they know where the spec sheet might be?

    Thanks

Have you tried Google searching the listed MSD part numbers on that sticker? I had the same sticker on my old 5.6L Windsor V8 in a Falcon and my coils were significantly different, so I imagine that many of those part numbers listed on the sticker will also look nothing like yours. From there you should be able to at least narrow it down to only a few models or even only one might be an exact match in shape.

That's what I meant when I said I searched the MSD website - all are listed except one and none look the same (a Google search on the remaining one and it looks nothing like it). So I'm guessing it's something else - what it is, is something TBC...

    G`day ,

looks like an LS1 type , GM , ac delco , bosch , denso etc ice ignition also.

Have a look between the coil lead and wiring plug for markings or on the opposite side to the bolt heads

Engine number is behind the LH head on a cast boss just near where head and block join, blue engine colour is definitely P76.

For the life of me, I can't find the engine #... Pretty sure it's a 4.4 as there's no area in the block casting next to the oil dipstick for a number - which I understand is where the rover V8 engine #'s are.

Ta - seems to match - no markings, but based on how it looks and how it's wired up, it makes sense.

Now to decipher if the LS1 coil is good enough as a distributor coil (ie to fire for all 8 cylinders...) Rather than the original single coil/cylinder it was originally intended for.
