everytime mine has gone it was a broken stud that caused it

Yep did mine recently. Three broken studs. I also found the previouos guy to do it had left half of the old gasket on there and just sloshed gesket goo all over it
At least my overheating problem seems to be sorted And my fuel consumption has improved 8)

    Thanks scouse ,,,,,,,,,,,,
But the manifold is a componant of the engine, as described within LR's own extended warranty booklet 8) , so it is correct what you say,,,, but only because the claims guys are generally knuckleheads at best or playing silly buggers at worst.

either way it results in a bad taste in my mouth every time someone asks how my Landrover is. and that means I bag the company(not the car) 8O at every discussion, which means the morons are advertising themselves out of work,,,,,,,,,,,eventually IMHO

I drilled the holes out bigger on the manifold this allows for a bit more expansion of the manifold,if you look at the holes you may see where
the manifold has been pushing against the stud which causes it to break.

On mine the holes at the ends had half a thread worn into them, drilling larger holes into the manifolds was a mod we use to do on caterpiller engines that kept breaking studs had no more drama's after that
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

    Stevo,
That is a good tip you give to open up the holes, a few machine shops I phoned suggested the same. I have done this tonight.
I have spoken to an engineering mob in town today, I asked them to weld webs on the turbo side of the manifold. Basically triangulate from the turbo flange out to numbers 1 and 5.
I am also considering tapping the stud holes to take M10studs :?: :?: not sure yet.

I had reservations about them welding mild steel onto the cast manifold,(differant cooling rates in service etc etc) 8O ,,,, they assure me that it will be alright :? I suppose I will find out sooner or later, or if there are any metalurgist on here,, speak up.

    AND
Me smells sumfin fishy,,,, :x not that I'm into bagging LR at all 8O ,, But there where three metal gaskets used under my manifold 8O three bloody crush gaskets what are these LR Wallys thinking..... I cant believe they lasted as long as they did. I guess it is to hard for LR to actually remove the manifold completely,, just shove a couple of extra gaskets in there. they could of only done it about six months ago.

Trinity Landrover Cairns last worked on my car

Im wondering if my increased turbo lag/decreased fuel economy indicates I too have the same problem, sounds plausible
Big service coming up,add it to the list.

drilling the studs out to 10 mm is alot of work for no real gain I have had no problems since I have done the mods and bracing the manifold like the way you suggested out to 1@5 again I think that could lead to problems like cracking of the manifold due to the increased stresses.

Drill the holes on 1 and 5 bigger I did mine 2 mm then the 2 and 4 1.5mm bigger left number 3 original to keep it located in the right place

    Is your rig sounding louder?
If its been a while you will also see the soot marks where it is leaking.
