Thread: Update-Defender rear window rattles gone

Hi

Interested to know how snug the fit is in the new rubber. I own an '85 County and believe the glass is marginally thicker (6mm vs 5 mm or something like that) than later 110's and Defenders.

I'd like to go to the rubber, but was concerned that with the thicker glass the window wouldn't slide.

Anyone have comments experience with this ?

Will take another look tonight 110 to see if thicker glass may be OK

i/we left the glass in place 'looks like a big job to remove the glass', two seperate bits either side, install one with the window closed and than open the window and do the other half, you end up with an inch or so in the middle with no felt

Sliding windows work fine and there is not a hint of a rattle.
For the $20 it cost you would be mad not to take the 10 minutes reqd to do this simple mod.

Just thought I'd share - my drive to work this morning was so nice and silent - thought I was driving a Lexus.....

Would the same thing work for the drivers side dorr window???

All I replaced was the felt - dont touch the plastic runners in the base of the window frame. I just slid the window back and pulled out as much felt as I could and then just pressed the new bailey channel into place - no glue is reqd, the channel fits perfectly, then slid the window forward and replaced the small run of felt at the top/rear of the window. Took 10 minutes, all you need is some scissors to cut the bailey channel and something like a stanley blade to prise out the old felt (my felt virtually fell out).

You will be left with a few inchs of felt in the top centre of the window frame where you wont be able to push the bailey channel in.
