				Hello All,
Just wondering what possible faults to look out for in a 1993 Defender heater and air box? The previous owner had one pipe connected in a loop to the two pipe couplings at the top of the heater. All the electrical wires were still connected to the unit
I have taken the heater out and I thought I might see what faults may be occurring? With the heater air box on a bench what test could I perform to check out if there is a fault and how it may be fixed?
With it box out it also gives a me a chance to disassemble and clean all of its components. The vehicle from new spent its time as workhorse on a farm until last year, when I bought it off the original owner. Needless to say the heater and air box has sucked up a considerable amount of western Queensland dust and dirt during its life on the farm. Some of the duct pipes and duct body were full of detritus to such an extent that it was nearly clogging up the fan.
Kind regards
Lionel

Most likely thing as I see it is the heater matrix was leaking and the PO bypassed it as he wouldn't need it in Qld. Not sure how available they are, but it seems to me like a good time to replace it, or at least take it to a radiator shop for testing and possible repair. You could test it yourself if you can pass water through it at around 15 PSI. It may not leak if not under pressure.
