Rear Lockers on the D3

To my fellow a) landy drivers and D3 owners and in general, do you have the rear lockers on your D3 and if so how do you find them? Also as a general question, is how much of a difference does it make considering I have front lockers already?? I thought mine came with rear, but I dont think I do ( I know Im not a real technical one 8O ), on the screen where all the action is it shows 2 lockers but I have only ever seen the front one "lock" up on screen. I could always confirm with lender, but this is more fun to post and get feedback from the experts,

    Regards

    Steve,

I don't have the NAV screen with 4x4 info but your D3 only can have a centre diff lock and a rear diff lock.Ther is no front diff lock like the new Jeep.

The Centre Diff lock is standard and this is what you see locking and unlocking in the screen.

The rear diff lock will lock only when slip is sensed on the rear and to know if you have one or not you can get under the rear when in off-road height and take a look at the rear diff housing. If on the top of the housing you can see a solenoid with wires then you have the e-diff option. If you don't have this then you don't have the e-diff lock.

There is another method to see if the diff lock is there or not and that is to set the TR knob to "Rock Crawl" and find hill with a loose surface and a tight uphill hairpin and accelerate to get the rear wheels to break traction. The diff lock will engage for sure.

If you don't have the diff lock don't dispare as the Traction Control will do it's thing without the diff lock. Obviously if you have the diff lock it is an added advantage. It is not retrofittable.

    Hope that helps.

    Chris

    Bit of a sidetrack....

How does the rear locker in the D3 activate? Is it via pressurised air (like the AR, vacuum (maxi) or electrical?

I think they're electronic Noddy, but as to the workings, perhaps someone else can shed some light.

    Stevo,

If you have the rear locker (like me) then there will be a padlock symbol on the rear diff in the 4x4 info screen.

I've found that it locks more than the centre one when on the sand.

THey only lock whne they have to and immediaitely unlock when not needed so it's likely that its been locking and unlocking and you haven't noticed. That's if you've got one. It was a $1,000 option. If there's only a padlock over the centre diff, the you haven't got the rear one and it can't be retro fitted.

There is a padlock on the screen, just havent seen it at this point lock, so wasnt sure if I had it. Mind you as Chris points out perhaps I need to see it on some diff terrain. With going to Fraser in a cuppla weeks will see then.

Huh 8O , I wouldnt have a clue where what, luckily I have abilities in other areas so I can at least pay for the thing  though I will challenge myself and see if I can find the solenoid thingy on the whatsamacallit , thanks again people, appreciate your feedback,
