    A couple of newbie questions...

    Couple of newbie questions...

Sorry about this, but my thinking is a little clouded atm.

These questions all pertain to diesel cars.

    Question 1; will an LT 230 from a D1 R380 bolt straight up to a D2 auto?

Question 2; will an R380 from a 300 TD1 go behind a TD5 that was an auto? Bell housing aside.

Question 3; will a pedal box from a D1 fit a D2? I think I know the answer, but hey.

    Question 4; do D1 springs fit D2s?

They don’t have the tang so they don’t quite seat correctly.

I know that using a grinder on springs is frowned upon, with good reason, but could the tang thing be sorted with a little grinding, with heat being monitored, in your opinion?

I probably should give a little background to these questions. I have been stuck in a sort of morass of indecisiveness and immobility for a few months. Now, I need to at least think about moving on. I currently have 2 D2s, one is the one famous for it's auto sagas. The other is a parts car I bought. There is also a pig of a 300TDi D1, which has the saving grace of having a MaxiDrive rear locker and of course axles, MaxiDrive front axles, and a MaxiDrive reduction LT230. I don't know the ratio, but I can say that in low range, fifth gear, at around 4000 RPM the car is doing 25 or so KM/H, on 33s. It also has the saving grace in that it actually works.

I need to clear the decks. I am currently trying to get the parts D2 going to assess it's condition. If it drives OK, then maybe it's auto can go into mine. If it doesn't, then I am thinking that the D1's R380, which is an Ashcroft suffix L with less than 20,000 on it could go into my car instead. There must be some way to consolidate all of this into a going car and a little money left over. I am particularly interested in putting the MD TC in the D2. I also am interested in parting out the D1 to fund part of this. The D2 parts car has a TD5 that allegedly runs. It also has ACE. Maybe, just maybe, there is a path out of this nightmare with all of this.

I apologise for the wooly thinking ( fuzzy logic, I prefer ). Times will get better, I know.

John in short the D1 springs will go in with no mod`s what so ever and work for what you want

I run them in mine and did not notice the said tang nor notice them not sitting correctly as Tombie state`s .

So i guess it is user be aware that there could be issues and ramifications

The 300Tdi R380 will need a longer input shaft to suit your td5 and then a manual ECU ect .

Thanks, Chris. The manual thing was always a long shot for my car. If the input shaft is different then that's the end of it, as I don't want to play around with an Ashcroft R380 which could otherwise be worth some money.
