I don't know what others think, but prolonged EGTs of 720 on a regular basis would scare the hell out of me, let alone 780. I reckon about a 1/4 turn back on the fuelling screw would be the very first thing I would try.

It seems lots of people play with the fuelling screw first, when really it should be last. Sure, the results are immediate, but have deleterious effects on economy and longevity.

It's all pretty simple, and a 300TDi can go as well as a stock TD5 if done correctly.

Keept it under 720, i have my madman set on 650 and hardly ever go over.

Out of curiosity how quickly does the egt come down when you stop?

Another area of note is the exhaust.
Does yours still have the mufflers?

Could be clogged if old.
Removal of centre muffler helps.

I had mine removed(D1 tho), and made too much noise.
Had a straight through added to the centre .. still too much droning.

Had another shop add a rear muffler(stupid thing to do).
Got rid of the droning, but that's when my EGTs seemed to elevate more so.
Maybe I should have gone with a straight thru/resonator type, but I really hated the droning on what is otherwise a pretty quite cruiser on the highway.

that sounds pretty normal to me. mine blew lots of smoke until i replaced the FIP and injectors. New Cylinder head dropped the temps about 80 for no other change.

A diesel is like a camp fire, more air (boost) will lower the temp, more fuel will increase it. Fuel is the energy, temperature is the limitation. You can grab a boost T pretty cheaply and up the boost by even a few psi that'll bring your temp down for the same fuel amount. then you can be happy its cooler, or you can pump more fuel in. I think the stock 300 turbo is ok running about 18 psi max? I am running about 17 at the moment.

300tdi is undercooled in factory tune. Both cooling system and intercooling. Bigger intercooler front mount if possible. And do the guard vent mod as well IMO

Mine will get to 690-700, but I back off quick at that point. I don't mind it going to 720 at peak, but not for more than a few seconds. Who needs melted pistons for the sake of some torque?

Other thing that works as an inter cooler is out of an Toyota MR2 - same height and width but double thickness, so fits in the hole

On my Td5, a ceramic coated exhaust manifold brought the EGTs down approximately 100deg on average. A bigger intercooler lowered them another 50deg.
