    300TDi egts and where next?

The 130 gets up to 700deg fairly quickly and seems to have plenty left

What does one do get more usability?

    Bigger intercooler or ?

Pre or post turbo? Sounds high either way.
    Larger inter cooler will help.
I assume your air filter is new?
Best control is your right foot though IMO.

What mods does it have, Dave? If stock then I'd say the fuel screw is wound in too far, but I'm guessing.

    Pre turbo then.
I’ve read that 720 deg is the max sustained EGT these motors will tolerate but you would be a brave man to run it that hot for long.
I’ve also read that a better (read larger) intercooler can decrease the EGT substantially but others will have more advise regarding make, size and cost
IME keeping the filter clean and installing an EGT alarm helps manage the EGT’s.

    back fuelling off a little.
(little by little so you maintain some level of performance).

    OR
Is the IC blocked on the outer surfaces with gunk/dust/mud/buildup? Hose it down.

what sort of EGT do you get on a steady cruise(say 90-100) on a flat road?

So you get black smoke from the exhaust?

I've got my D1 setup so that it puffs a small bit of black smoke once the right foot is pressed down(ie. initially), but then once boost starts to build the black smoke disappears, even tho I may press accel a bit more.
I suppose I could tweak the turbo boost compensator spring(starwheel) to reduce/eliminate the initial black smoke puff .. but ATM it's going OK, and EGT is controllable.

I have a double core(thick) IC to install one day, but it requires a bit of grinding of the (redundant) steering box mount on the top of the chassis near the base of the IC.

That's the commonly recommended method to maintain EGT and reasonable power levels.

    doesn't appear to be.

    430 - 450 pulling a 1 tonne van @ 100 kph on flat ground from memory

long slow hills i back off @ 720 and drop a gear to maintain momentum etc etc

So you get black smoke from the exhaust?

if laboured in a gear i get some, esp if i take off in 2nd with a load on

MR Auto did the pump timing when they did the timing belt.

anything else predates me so is a mystery shall we say...

the thing has heaps of torque and pulls the 1 tonne van with ease

i generally manage to keep it around a max of 720 but sometimes it is at 760-780 before you realise it is working that hard.

am a lot wiser about when i need to back off after the trip to cooma....

will read up on the fuel screw adjustment.

pulling the van i was getting around 520-550 klms out of a tank of juice which i thought was okay ?

I’d have it dyno tuned, a bit more science than a workshop tweak

Mine was also done st MR but was very smokey......after the dyno tune smoke went away and EGT’s spit on.

Fuel economy looks good, how many litres??
