    RRC power steering problem

    I was on a 4x4 trip on the weekend and in the 1st bog hole my drivers side wheel took a hefty nock, immediately after wards I lost power steering… fluid levels were ok belts were ok and spinning and no stiff spots from lock to lock. I drove the rest of the day without power steering (damn they are heavy) and hours later on the freeway it suddenly came back… was also ok this morning.

    Anyone got any ideas what could have failed? Would / can the PS pump just stop working? Could it be a problem with the PS box?

    <span style="color:blue">it sounds like you had pressure on to turn one way...and the hard knock
    pushed against that pressure......popping open a pressure relief valve....
    which would have popped open that hard it jammed open......


    well....thats my theory and im sticking to it.....
    at least till someone tells me otherwise.....</span>

    yeah ok sounds good but how do you recover from it if it happens again?

    so using that rule...it should never happen again.....


    if it does happen again...i would be looking to replace the pump.....?
    just ignore it for now and see what happens...

    it sounds like just a freaky accident....
    but holding the steering on full lock will work the oil and the relief valve...</span>

    cheers!!

    It has actually happen before… when I put the current motor in we couldn’t get the PS working until we full locked it and gave it a boot full… So it all makes sense now!!!

    And for what is worth the owners manual says that full lock should not be held for more than 30 seconds....is that related to the relief valve?

    <span style="color:blue">it over works the oil.....till it burns....and aerates it as well....

    and you know what happens when auto oil gets too hot....</span>
