    front springs

I have recently bought a set of 180lb (15.9 inch) rangie spare front springs (on advice from them) as an upgrade set to carry new bar and winch on a tdi. Looking at them I wonder if they will be up to the job-anyone have any thoughts? I can just return them and get a heavier set-save me putting them on and taking them off??

    thanks

I doubt. I think you should be looking at about 220-230lb/in for that load. The 180lb springs will settle down by about 1 to 1.5" after a while.

    front springs

    Hi Lindsay,

I have Rangie front springs (PINK) but dont have a winch.

If you are worried about the springs that you have bought

can I suggest you exchange them for (RED)

    Front Springs

    X Heavy Duty 15.90" Pink 180

XX Heavy Duty 16.50" Red 180

Front …..515mm Unladen ……… Rangie Springs (Pink) from under wheel arch to axle centre.

If you can improve on this with the extra weight of the winch by installing the (RED) springs you are on the right track

You don't need anything heavier than this.
Just remember that the standard springs were progressive

This is more than enough for the front with the extra weight of the bar and the winch, otherwise you will make the front too stiff and destroy any comfort.

    hope this helps

    front springs

    Many thanks for the info.
My car is being set up for an extended trip to Cape York so the front suspension will have to handle corrugations/washouts, the old telegraph rd etc while carrying a big load. I dont want to be bottoming out at the front everytime I hit a dip (which is what its doing now with the old rears on the front). So my options are go the longer 180lb springs, or go up to the 220's. Personally I am leaning to the latter-does this extra info alter any of your suggestions?

I currently have Kings on the rear which seem to be up to the job giving about 110mm bumpstop clearance with a load on and airbags at 15-20psi.

    cheers

shocks wil be an issue dont fit crap.

220 lb on rear and 180 on front will be good. if carriing heavy in rear 270s but they give a firm ride empty I have these in mine at moment great when car is full but just to much empty will get a set of 250 made.

I think these guys make LRA springs.

I seriously think that Laden touring should be around 220-230 front and 300 or a touch more on the rear. On a D2 180lb doesnt maintain ride height and if you want to maintain ride height (meaning bumpstop clearance which will improve confort significantly. 300lb on the rear because the load space is a long was past the rear axle unlike the D1 and it will bottom easily when loaded. Even at those rates it will still articulate well.

A d2 doesn't really get setup the same as other Landies.
