Gaskets and Gasket Goo for Series Gearboxes

    Hello All,

I am overhauling a Series 3 gearbox. Just wondering if people just use the new gaskets that come in a Gearbox Re-seal Kit? Or do you use the new gaskets and add some gasket glue as well?

If you do use gasket glue on the gearbox gaskets what brand and product code do you recommend?

The vehicle in question will be having a Main Roads Roadworthy inspection because it has not be registered for years. It would be nice if the gearbox does not mark its territory while it is being inspected.

Yes I know - I am asking a lot, it is a Series Land Rover after-all - Teehee.

Oh and what grade and specification of oil should be used in the gearbox and transfer case?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Where it can be done, I find it much better to dispense with gaskets and use a modern goo such as the ThreeBond grey gearbox sealant. Unfortunately there are some applications where the thickness of the gasket constitutes part of a critical dimension; where this is the case, I find the Hylomar gasket spray works well as a gasket 'dressing'.
