So to educate the rest of us, how many teeth?
I replaced my P38A cam at 115K - RPIs website indicates it is common. I had the heads of at the time looking for a blown head gasket so I fitted a new cam and lifters at the same time.Originally posted by PLR
i wanted to ask about liners for crossbolted V8 and if it was normal for a P38A cam to be worn out at 130K
I now think it had a slipped liner but, at the time, the slipped liner problem was less well known.
I'm interested in top hat liners to repair my old 4.6

Are you the same peterr with whom I've been having the same discussion on the Australian Range Rover and Discovery Forum?
My engine appears to have slipped liners 3-4-5-6 so it's a major refit.

So`s this makes sense and it only took 2 yrs of looking now and again .
The reason for it not making sense is that i was unsure at the time if the count that was here was correct , it was partly but being only partly it was wrong . Wrong infomation is worse than useless .
EDIT function was usefull for this purpose and i`d like to congratulate those clever people that caused the Edit function use to be revoked .
0.996:1 ratio = 26teeth / 45teeth
1.000:1 29/50
1.113:1 31/48
1.123:1 28/43
1.174:1 32/47
1.335:1 31/40
Have verified the #s and seen tech drawings with same . ( don`t ask )
Cheers
Thanks peter and good work buddy the 1.335:1 raito is this the raito the V8 stage 1 and county got or was there a higher one like 1.4:1 as im courious also as ive heard that the county had this later raito or was my pocket piddled in and i thought there was a 1.2??:1 raito also is this correct or is it only what you have posted as im about to setup a LT95 to go in my rangie as ive stuffed the trasfer case in mine and i have a stage 1 V8 LT95 which is in perfect condition tho has a tall high range which i dont want il be fitting the .996:1 into it
Cheers chris
What was this ratio used in - never heard of it???1.000:1 29/50
G`day Chris and Ben ,
I know very little about LT95s and alot of infomation is misleading .
My only interest was that i ratted the high gears from a RR 12C to give to a bloke in NZ . Should have had 0.996 but worked out it had 1.174 so had been ratted before i got there but needed the tooth count to work it out .
This was/is my only interest in the transfer , i just write stuff down when i see it , sometimes i put it together when enough unfolds if `m happy with its correctness and as you know nothing is clear cut with any Rover information .
LT , Light Truck or Leyland Transmittion , 95 , the distance between shafts or the size of . There`s plenty to be had but sorting fact from fiction takes awhile .
I don`t actually know as in haven`t worked out what ratio went with which vehicle but i guess the infomations there but as i`m only interested in correct stuff it may take another couple of times .
The only ratios i`ve listed are ones that i could find a tooth count for both gears .
I`ve also come across 1.22:1 and 1.116:1 both it seems Range Rover
I`ve a Land Rover service bulletin from 1981 for the series3 4BDI launch it says 1.123:1 .
Can`t be helpful with either question but above is my reason why .
I`m sure other will have the info that can help , as i say i know little about the subject .
Cheers
Ok thanks for that peter the info is verry helpfull tho have you ever heard of a lower than standard low range gearset as i have found a box which is said to have a 30% reduction on low range but theres no proof and i spoke to one of the guys who use to work for maxi drive and he had never heard of it and i also spoke to a mech at british off road in bris and he said that he hasent heard of it either and the guy with the box cant give me the proof of it having a lower low range so the only way to tell will be via tooth count so do you or anybody else know the tooth count on the low range gears as i cant see this being fact if no one else has heard of them ever existing
Cheers chris
