Quality Alternatives for Lucas Dizzy Cap & Rotor?

    G'day All,

Information on this forum & past experience has shown that genuine Lucas dizzy caps & rotors (made in England) were the only choice for reliable ignition on Rover V8's, particularly when running on LPG. It appears that these are now made in China & are of inferior quality. Does anybody have experience with quality alternatives?

    Many thanks,
    Edward ☺

    Hey mate
I havnt looked for a different cap yet, but my rotor off my xf falcon fit perfectly. The contact is much bigger and it's a Bosch part that any auto store will stock. Let us know if you find a good quality cap

Not quite what you are after but in have a Scorcher ignitions dizzy which takes a Ford cap and button from memory. Unlike LR Lucas i have not had to change either. You just install and forget like a Ford V8...

    Performance Ignitions in Vic.

Excellent idle and better throttle response too.

    Cheers

Correct, it's Bosch part number GB864 and is sometimes a bit of a tight fit. Carefully clean the mounting post with some wet-n-dry and push it on carefully.

Yeah mine was quite snug but after putting the screw in the shaft I'm not worried about the weights falling apart now.Quality Alternatives for Lucas Dizzy Cap & Rotor?
Have you every tried to put a falcon 8 dizzy cap or similar onto a Lucas dizzy? I was thinking about getting an 8cy Bosch dissy from the wreckers and trying to experiment with fitting it to the rover 8 but I think getting the advance curve right will be problematic along with everything else.

A Bosch holden dizzy is common candidate, just machine up a sleeve and fit the rover oil pump drive gear.

From memory the Scorcher is Holden V8 bottom end and top including rotor and button is Ford V8 with Aus Bosch HEI Module. So all very doable at home with time and the right gear. Mine was a daily driver and I didn't have time.

I have an old scorcher my dad bought back in 1984 when he a bought a new RRC, i found it in the shed some 6 years after he sold the rangie and put it in my 81 rangie.
Out of interest, the old man got some new starfire 4cyl dizzy's at a swap meet and made up a sleeve so he could fit it to his 1927 Dodge 4.

Thank you all for your replies so far. I purchased the bosch rotor mentioned but it doesnt fit my dizzy. The little notch in the rotor does not extend far enough down, so the rotor spins on the shaft of the dizzy. (It does fit on my cheap chinese knock-off dizzy i keep as a spare though).

Further to my last post - my current dizzy is the original points dizzy converted to lumenition. It looks like it's the points cam on the shaft that doesn't let the bosch rotor fit down far enough.
