hmmm, all switches in the transfer are normally open, eg high range, CDL unlocked, oil is cool.

So it turns out there is a temperature switch in there also - I never knew about this one, its for the V8's - normally open, closes at 145 degrees.

CDL ends up under the centre console where it splits to the dash and the SLABS I think. The range selector goes to the ECU, Auto ECU and SLABS. These 2 wires end up on top of the transfer case at the front near the CDL locking mechanism.

CDL wire is Black with blue tracer.
Hi/Lo wire is Red with pink tracer.

For the life of me I cant find a pic of where exactly on the TF the wires should plug in.

Thanks for the info. So in your opinion do you think the wiring to the transfer case could still be the issue? I took the loom off a D2a transfer case and auto that I parted out. But it was from a V8.I have attached a picture of it. I think this was it from memory.

To bo honest I don't know. I'd jump in and just see if you can turn HDC control on and that will tell you straight away. I think the V8 loom may be different becasue it also has the temp sensor.

Bah, I just reread your OP. The black smoke doesnt make sense. I think I've given you a bum steer. Makes me think again its not getting air. Maybe a dropped air hose, especially the one straight off the turbo.

I'll try that tomorrow as well. But from memory I think it was really gutless and was blowing allot of black smoke.

From stand still when i accelerate it is gutless. It takes a bit of throttle to get it going. I recorded some info from the nanocom. I don't know what
to make of it though. Some one with knowledge of the readings might be able to understand it better.

I've not read a nanocom file before. I've culled a lot of info out. Does this read as????

    Ambient pressure 1bar
Idle pressure 1bar (ie no boost)
2600rpm 1.72 bar including ambient (1bar 14.7psi, so about 10.6psi at part throttle no load?)

    ENGINE SPEED;AMBIENT PRESSURE;TURBO PRESSURE
    773;100.12;99.9
    2088;99.80;119.5
    2000;100.01;121.8
    2608;99.08;172.3
    754;100.33;100.5
    Cheers

1.72 Bar is nearly 25psi, could over boost be an issue, like I have just had after fitting a new turbo on my Defender? I know over boost limp mode is set at 1.25 bar on the Defender TD5.
    Cheers
