Headlight bulb replacement - FL2 xenon

    Hi everyone
New to the forums so please be gentle!
I saw someone with an AULRO.com spare tyre cover and it got me onto the site and now I have a query that I hope someone can assist with.
Two years ago I bought a secondhand 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE 2.2L diesel and I L*O*V*E it (based in Sydney).
Today I noticed that at night the LR2 is winking at everyone. The passenger-side headlight bulb is gone.
I have been doing research online and want to get the best bulb money can buy since Alto JLR want to charge me $480 each (!) for the "genuine" replacement.
My local LR specialist mechanic has original spares for $240 each.
Whilst browsing online I found OSRAM have a new model of Xenarc Night Breaker Laser bulbs which look amazing.
I want to change both bulbs since the car is about 5yrs old now and it's only a matter of time until the second one goes.

    My question is:
Do I have to get genuine replacement bulbs (OSRAM 66340HBI D3S) because anything else will melt the headlights or can I buy the most beautiful and brightest bulbs available?

    Thank you!
    -Joe

Like Joe, I had the LH headlight go out. I planned to pull out the bulb this morning and go to the nearest Repco/Autobahn/Supercheap and get a replacement. Not so. It is a Xenon and I have zero experience with that sort of lamp, except that the User Manual says "take it to a dealer" whereas with the halogen, it says DIY. After searching this forum I came to the conclusion that a dealer would be charging about $500 (for a light bulb?). So a trip to the local independent saw me lose less than $300 for a 5 minute fix, but the headlight now works... My D4 is a magnificent vehicle, but a huge money pit!

Find out from the manual(hope it was in the car when you got it) and find out what brand/model number the bulb is.

There is a few fleabay sellers that are oz based that will sell the bulbs for a fraction of what the dealer wants for them.

Then just change them your self.

    Hi Jowey,

I found this site after a quick search and they have a heap of choices for the Freelander 2 and the prices don't seem to steep.
