Thread: replacing Cookes PT2 trailer hubs to take Disco 2 wheels

The D2 wheel is centralised through the centre hole in the wheel. The bolts purely clamp the wheel to the hub face.

On most other wheels the wheel nuts are tapered and the wheels are centred on the hub by the nuts and the centre of the wheel is purely for letting the hub through the middle of it.

Trailer hubs are all designed to centralise the wheel on the wheel nuts, they're not machined to centre the wheel through the middle of the wheel like how D2 wheels are designed.

Looking at the spare parts list for the Cooks trailer, it appears they have disc brakes and the discs look to be RRC-D1 5 stud, with no real room to redrill for D2 .

The only option would seem to be adaptors (not spacers) as I have done years ago.

I bought my adaptors from UK. They are RRC pattern on the inside and have d2-d3 pattern studs on the outside.

They are about 30MM thick which you need as the D2 wheel offset is much different to the RRC-D1 offset.

As the bloke only had D3 in stock when I ordered mine I had to grind down the centre as the D3 has a smaller (Edit should be larger) ring than D2. However the D2 ones have the centre ring of the correct size.

The wheels are centred perfectly well on the nuts anyway, as I have checked with a dial gauge.
The trailer has now been around OZ again and on numerous other trips with no problems.

They were not cheap but cheaper and less trouble than other options.
