    Range Rover Isuzu 4BD1 Conversion

Folks, I have a good 4BD1 engine (sad story of poor prepurchase inspection and trusting a fellow LR nut!), wondering whether it was possible (read cheap) to put it in a Rangie?

Anybody done it? Did a search and a few people were talking about it, but did you do it?

I'm figuring a Rangie with a dead engine woul dbe pretty cheap to pick up, but thats another question and I have heaps of time and little money...

Easy conversion, just need a couple of bits:

bell housing, fly wheel, fly wheel housing, clutch and presure plate, crank extension and bearing, extended clutch push rod, 12 volt alternator and starter motor [24v on most trucks]. Dependiing on the age of the isuzu, one of two different oil filter adapters.
All these bits are 'land rover specials'

Best bet is to find an isuzu stage one landy or 110 thats stuffed. even if the motor is buggered all the conversion bits should be fine.

The 4DB1 is in a Series III but has a Isuzu gearbox I believe it has a SIII transfer case, I'm not sure how that would go with the RR.

I think you might have to lift the body an inch or so as well, or modify the bonnet.

I have one. You will need to do at least a 1.5" bodylift to get it to clear the bonnet. If it was in a running SIII then sit the two side by side and do the swap.

The air cond can be a PITA if you want to fit it. Have a look at my photos page and yhere should be some pics to look at.

If you're taking it out of a LR then sounds like most of your problems have already been sorted.

I'd reckon the questions you should be asking are about fitting Series III engine mounts to RR and same for Series III transfer case.

That makes it a much simpler problem.

    Cheers

You might try KLR Automotive in Penrith (NSW) for the engine mount brackets to weld to the chassis as they have done a number of these conversions and the two principals, Matt and Brad, both drive 4BD1-T Rangies and the apprentice has just fitted one to his Rangie.
