Series 2.25 Diesel - injector tester options

Series 2.25 diesel engine - have one of my injectors not correctly set as I see puffs of excess unburnt fuel on idle. I am investigating sending them to get them pop tested but thinking that I may be able to make/buy a tester for the same price. The injectors are extremely simple to service but obviously cannot set the 135 atmosphere required without a tester and dont want to pay premium for a service so simple.

Has anyone bought or made one themselves? I looked at evilbay and you can get them BUT not sure of fittings.

Any advice most welcomed

You did ask for "any advice". I used to do marine injectors in another life, and my advice is "don't" stuff around with them without the proper equipment. 130 bar / 2,000 psi needs the correct test pump and fittings. BUT, an old hydraulic jack "could" be adapted, but again, the correct fittings or you run the risk of serious injury. Cheers

I was told by one of the local diesel places near me they would test my 2.25 injectors for free. Test only of course. Hi tech diesel it was. I would not do these by myself even tho i could becoz they can be very dangerous things if something goes wrong...even fatal we were told by our instructor 40 odd yrs ago. Best left to "expurts"...pun intended.

RTM.

remove and install upside down, crank engine over and watch the pattern.

you now know your dud injector.

clean it paying attention to assembly positions and shims.

retest it.

carefully and incrementally adjust until the pattern matches the other.

you want a good battery.

Thanks for your replies. I actually did service these before, as in removed the nozzle, cleaned the pin (not sure of name) and made sure the components didnt bind (as in pin slides nicely in the nozzle case).

However, I didnt touch the spring load as this is where one needs a pop tester to have it all 4 matched. I completely agree on the dangers and was careful when I used my spare pump with injectors connected, pump end driven by a hand drill, worked a treat.

Ill ask around diesel injector specialists first, but I am avoiding a situation where ill be paying more for a 'tune up' than a pop tester I can have in my toolset for future use.

EDIT: No sooner than posting this I found a local who is retired that does work in his spare time and knows about these injectors, so should have these sorted
