    Electrical faults after heavy rain

    Hey guys,
i posted some threads to problems concerning my car not being waterproof for heavy rains. I read great solutions on one evening and the plan was to fix it the other day. If course it rained very heavily over night and on the next day everything went crazy. I can show you a video down below how the starting looked. Everything started with the central locking not working. I thought it might be the actuator but after starting and driving it, I saw that there are many other problems, probably because the BCU is wet.
The indicators didn't work, the washer didn't work on interval, the odometer is flashing, there is a crossed B in the selected drive, the SRS is flashing and the glow plugs warning light didn't go off after starting.
I parked the car in the garage and tried to seal all the points where water would enter the car (hopefully successful) and let it dry for a day. The indicator work now again and the washer in interval too. The glow plug light is off, but all the other things are still a problem.
I heard the odometer is flashing due to being desynced and it will fix itself to the highest mileage after a few starts.
I couldn't locate the BCU to dry it manually, so if anyone could describe the position for a Disco 2 Td5 auto, would be appreciated.
Any other advice on how to get the central lock to work again or to kill all the other things would be awesome.

    cheers Marc

    ....
Passengers footwell, on the left hand side kick panel.
If the black panel is still fitted, remove this, and the first thing you see is the large round ventilation fan plastic cover.
To the LH side of the car from this:
You will see 4 connectors from the bottom side, and (maybe you will see, maybe you won't see), but it has a connector on the large flat face facing the driver side too.

To save you the trouble of removing it, I'd recommend that you pull each plug first and spray them with something like WD40 or, even better, some CO contact cleaner.
No guarantee that this will work, but it's easier to remove a plug, spray it .. etc ... than to remove the BCU.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

EDIT: the locking works with the button inside the car (picture 1), but when using the key, it just turns the alarm on but is not locking the doors

The same symptoms like those you described can be caused by water ingress in the interior fusebox too which is very common as well.

Blinking odometer is a problem I have problem in my 1999 D2 Td5. I've recently bought this vehicle from a forum member and he tells me that it started after the RAC changed his battery when he had a flat battery due to alternator problems. He subsequently replaced the alternator which was the real issue.

How do I fix this ? I'm unsure where to start. I've a spare BCU and speedo/instrument cluster but don't really have a logical sequence/process to follow in chasing this problem down or do I just put it down to 'too hard' and forget it ?

The vehicle came with a Hawkeye Total and I've ensured that it's set the BCU to ignore odometer discrepancy. I've also used a Nanocom to try both options of sync odometer to BCU and vice versa with no result. In both cases Nanocom came up with 'unable to do task' or similar result, so where to from here ?

Double check if the "odometer error warning" is saved as "disabled" in the BCU

Thank you gentlemen for your input. Today I re checked with Hawkeye and found that I'd not saved my changes from the previous day as I was unfamiliar with Hawkeyes necessity to tab through to the end of the menu to write to memory ,definitely operator error. So thanks sierraferry for your polite reminder here, also thanks to Lemo, I pulled and checked every fuse and they're all fine. I'll put this down as my penance for being an idiot.

So thanks again fellas, speedo now reading 385 k's instead of 365 k's (I think) so I guess this is the distance traveled between battery replacement and now. Interesting though that my sons Nanocom couldn't synchronise either options and sort of 'locked up' trying.

Now all that's needed is to say adios to my three Mexican friends and I'll be ready for the roadworthy.
