Passengers footwell, on the left hand side kick panel.
If the black panel is still fitted, remove this, and the first thing you see is the large round ventilation fan plastic cover.
To the LH side of the car from this:
You will see 4 connectors from the bottom side, and (maybe you will see, maybe you won't see), but it has a connector on the large flat face facing the driver side too.

To save you the trouble of removing it, I'd recommend that you pull each plug first and spray them with something like WD40 or, even better, some CO contact cleaner.
No guarantee that this will work, but it's easier to remove a plug, spray it .. etc ... than to remove the BCU.

The same symptoms like those you described can be caused by water ingress in the interior fusebox too which is very common as well.

Blinking odometer is a problem I have problem in my 1999 D2 Td5. I've recently bought this vehicle from a forum member and he tells me that it started after the RAC changed his battery when he had a flat battery due to alternator problems. He subsequently replaced the alternator which was the real issue.

How do I fix this ? I'm unsure where to start. I've a spare BCU and speedo/instrument cluster but don't really have a logical sequence/process to follow in chasing this problem down or do I just put it down to 'too hard' and forget it ?

The vehicle came with a Hawkeye Total and I've ensured that it's set the BCU to ignore odometer discrepancy. I've also used a Nanocom to try both options of sync odometer to BCU and vice versa with no result. In both cases Nanocom came up with 'unable to do task' or similar result, so where to from here ?

Double check if the "odometer error warning" is saved as "disabled" in the BCU
