Don't know much about electrics but it sounds intersting....will watch with interest but I'm sure someone here will have an answer.

How's this for a cheap TD5 security idea:
- Find the wire from the throttle pedal sender to the ECU
- make a break in it
- put an on/off keyed electrical lock across the break
If you turned the key to off - no throttle signal to the ECU so it couldn't be driven anywhere apart from at idle speeds (assuming they could get the engine running).
Would this be feasable?
Should work, but suffers from the same problem as similar ideas - IF the thief suspects the problem, all they have to do is look for the disturbed wiring, or even just locate the switch and short the connections to it. But certainly would stop anyone unfamiliar with the idea.
A similar idea would be a concealed, keyed switch shorting a key engine sensor, such as the crankshaft position sensor.

The security on a D2 is as good as you get
If I wanted extra security I would add a keypad pin number system like you get with some turbo/engine timer switchoff thingies?
Knowing my luck I would do something like than and then find that when I am out the back of burke, my bus would not start
Majority of stolen vehicles are for joy rides and are oportunistic in nature, hence the use of club locks which can be easily pried off or broken. Unless they are professional and are after an "exotic" or a high value vehicle, most crooks do not have the time to be searching for a hidden kill switch.
I like the idea of hidden switches. If it was not for all the electeronics and resetting of the clock and radio I would install a battery switch, very simple and effective.
JohnV - I've got a Defender 130 and I wish the security was as good as a D2....
Crash - I've heard of a good solution to your dilema. Just put a small amperage fuse across the kill switch (say 10A) which will be enough to keep the radio etc live, but if anyone tries to start the car it will blow.
Just locate the wire to the fuel pump from the ECU and put a switch in that.
Try an hide all the wiring to the switch.

AFAIK you cant drive/start a TD5 with out the transponder
being next to the ignition lock??
havent tried it yet but im sure i read it in the manual somewhere.
if the battery goes flat in the transponder you have to use the second
unit??
if they want to get in your car they will, but i dont think they
could drive it away??

switch to bypass the security system.....most times whilst the alarm is sounding
as your button isnt working to de-activate it.....
phil...if you want to test yours....leave it unlocked for a few minutes....
then put just the key in the ignition.....
keep the remote away from the ignition switch and it wont start.....
as soon as you bring the remote near the ignition switch the engine can then
be started.......</span>

its having all your gear stolen from inside it.....
they just break in and take all of your accessories etc and leave you with a repair AND a replacement bill.........
who on here can afford to replace all their accessories.....?</span>
