Whilst I don't know that particular connector, I expect that the top can be removed but it may have retaining clips that have to be sprung. However you might try spraying contact cleaner into the connector then letting it drain and dry out.

The C0290 header connector and part of the loom in my Discovery 2 has got wet from rain water entering into the pass side footwell via the heater blower intake (common problem). The Speedo, Cruise Control and ACE are all affected intermittently because they get their road speed signal from this header.
I’m thinking that the pins and sockets inside need inspecting for corrosion from past events and for all to be cleaned and thoroughly dried out from this most recent event. But i cannot get the connector apart. Is it designed to be opened or will I destroy it trying?

Got a shot of the other side?
Ones I’ve seen on the web have the locking tabs on one side??

Pry the outer cover up over these tabs
I've just recalled the header. It has a series of linked prongs that fit into the sockets in the base so could very well need a good clean-out.

Because of the tight access i cannot get to eyeball the back of the header - but the phone camera sure helpsI will have to recruit my granddaughter for the job of prying the cover off methinks.
Many thanks

Got the cover lifted off the tabs but still can’t budge it - so wondering if it’s able to be disassembled.....

Yeah kids are good at that even when they are not supposed to.![]()
I did manage get the cover off myself, with prying and levering with a pick tool and then with pliers and grips to finally part it all. Then drowned the cover with WD40 to disperse any water sitting beneath the 4 bridge pin strips, then a blast of compressed air to dry it out. Repeat the process this time with contact cleaner and check with multimeter and all is goodnext apply dielectric grease around the base of the bridge pin strips and re-assemble. Now for a test drive🤞🏽

The test drive though the Strezlecki Hills was wonderful but the afternoons work on the loom didn’t solve my loss of road speed signal issue. So my attention is now focused on the SLABS ecu which supplies the road speed signal. I’m thinking maybe the problem is due to a dry solder joint because of the way the speedo needle reacts.... the speed signal doesn’t abruptly disappear, it fades, and the speedo needle drops in stages over about a 10 second time frame and then the cruise control will stop functioning and an amber warning light (for ACE) will illuminate . All is well initially but the onset occurs after travelling between 5 to 10km from a cold start.
