I have a whirring bearing noise coming from the A/C clutch and when I switch A/C on it seems to stop.
Wondering if there is a bearing in the clutch and if an easy DYI replace.

do you have a compressor make/model # ? If it's a Sanden, I have a catalogue and can give you the (manufacturers) pt #.
They are replaceable, but I've never swapped one out.

Edd, often it's the polyvee belt squawking. My alternator belt does it now and then, just to give me the willies. Sprinkle a little water on the belt while it's running, (watch those fingers !
obviously if the noise goes, it's the belt.

I thought mine was the belt tensioner pulley bearing at first.
So I replaced it. Bought one from a bearing place $7.50,( god know what dealers would charge for one) the old one when I took it out was wobbly so soon to let go. But I still have the whirring noise.
I might have a look at the belt though as when I take off on a hill it sometimes gives a slip noise.

Thanks for that. My first thought was OH great the belt is breaking. Started late friday night. Will see what I can do to make it happy. as no point replacing the bearings unless they are the problem. At least it wasn't a broken belt.

What I first thought was my clutch bearing causing the noise, is apparantly my Alternator making the noise
