    Type of Weight Scales

    Hello All,

On some pre-load measurements for Series Land Rover parts I have seen YouTube clips where they use Fish Weight Scales. I have seen the old beam spring style ones and the analogue dial faced ones used on the clips.

Would the newer digital style be okay to use? I have included photos of each style of scale.

Swivel Pin Housing pre-load of 1.16 to 1.46 kg accessed 28th January 2020 from YouTube at the 7:20 time stamp

    Kind regards
    Lionel

I can't see any reason why not. They might even be more accurate, although near enough is probably good enough.

Any of them should work, but watch that the digital one does not have a lag on their reading - this could lead to an incorrect reading as it is hard to keep it moving steadily even for a few seconds.

The saving grace is that the preload is not all that critical - just needs to be in the right ball park. (but measure it with the seal not installed)

I have always used the scales in the first picture

    Hello John,

Thank you for the reply. I thought there may be other things to consider. Cost was not a deciding factor because they all appear to be priced pretty much the same.

Have things settled down fire wise near you?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Fire outline has not changed since about Friday, and it is now listed as "under control", so looking good. But things could get a bit worrying between now and Sunday with tempratures into the forties and stronger winds.
