Punch out the roll pin and the lock will come out.
So I have discovered that the tow hitch on my recently acquired D3 has the key rusted into the green knob. Key won't turn or come out. The green knob will pull out but will only turn less that 1/4.
I want to get it off to give it a good clean up and repaint. I did think about replacing with a Mitch Hitch but if that occurs won't be for some time. Either way I still need to get it off.
Have applied liberal quanity of WD40 without success. Will removing the little chrome plate opposite lock mechanism help? Is there anything in there I can manipulate?
I've wiggled and giggled (the tow hitch as well) but nothing wants to give, any suggestions?

If it's not on the car (and I assume it's not as the key is in) then the knob won't move much unless it's in the locked position (locking pin extended). The key only rotates about 20 degrees and won't come out unless the locking pin is extended. Ie you can't get the key out unless it's locked into the car.
You can buy a new green knob / lock assembly as a separate spare part. Might be worth just replacing it. There is a roll pin there you need to knock out to get the knob off.
There are two versions though, so you'll want to get it off and have a look to make sure you order the correct one.
Edit : just re-read. yeah, as stated above remove the roll pin.
Thanks gents, got it off, stripped down, wirebrushed and hit with the rust converter. Once that dries can give it a coat or two of paint.
Yes, it was on the car so I'm at a lose as to why the key wouldn't turn or come out. Any way as I can get parts, that will solve that problem.
This place is just full of knowledge and helpful advice.
Thanks again.
