Ashcroft ATB Center Diff Hints please.

After a bit of advise or hints please. Purchased a center diff to fit to my 1998 300 tdi 130. No instructions so i'm guessing its set up and pre load as per standard lt230 transfer. Any advise from someone who has fitted one ?

Ordered Monday-Arrived Friday in Townsville. Average snail mail to Brisbane 5 days if your lucky.

Set-up as per a normal centre diff.
I used the old school string and spring balance method the last one I did, worked well.

Just be a little careful what oil you run, you don't want anything with an LSD FM additive in it for best performance.

Setup the centre as per the worshop manual. Put loctite on the bolts or use new bolts
Use the standard diff oil as recommended by the Rover.
If you are rough on the diff consider getting it pegged, but pegging can be time consuming.

Ps i use a big vise to hold the diff and i made a tool to turn the adjusters.
I have to reassemble one pegged rover diff centre as soon as motivation arrives.

Standard rebuild and replacement for the LT230 centre. Plenty of how to videos on you tube. Paddock spares do a full series.

Whatever 75w-90 GL5 diff oil you can get easily without LSD friction modifiers in it.
A good 75w-90 GL4 is fine in the t/case and it definitely won't have LSD FM's in it.
E.g. Penrite Transgear semi-synthetic works well, from feedback Penrite Pro Gear 75w-90 GL5 doesn't (LSD additive) but using a GL5 just makes things easier by using a common fluid across the diffs and t/case

My favourite is Motul Gear 300 75w-90 as it is very thin at low temps and so feeds into the pockets and parallel helical gears well but it is silly expensive.

The reason for not wanting any LSD additive is that the nature of the that type of friction modifier actively work against the functioning of the gears in the pockets to bias torque.
Jtekt, the manufacturer of various Torsen torque biasing diffs estimate around a 10% bias loss from LSD FM's, the feedback I have is it's worse than that and quite noticeable.
