Thank-you everyone for your input.
I still haven't had a chance to try it again.
Defenderzook, what drivesafe is saying - I had to find out the hard way, I had never had a car with negative switched headlights. When I bought the relays from supercrap, the coil was already earthed to the body of the relay and I had to drill out the rivet and replace it a small nut and bolt and special stepped plastic washers to isolate the connex from earth. (no shorts there - checked again and again)
Interior lights in most cars are also neg switched meaning:
earth <--- battery ---> globe ---> switch ---> earth
(basically.... + with other stuff between)
I also understand where you are heading Cruiser (and everyone else) ... Simplicity ... I agree and, thats where I started... as this project evolved, wires were added for troubleshooting and in an attempt to remedy the problems. What I've got now is just where I finished before throwing the whole lot into the shed in disgust.
Drivesafe, I'll get back to you on:
............."BTW, I am assuming that your diagram of the headlight socket is as viewed from the wire side and not the terminal side."............
I need to have another look.
I guess I could put it straight onto the disco and it would work perfectly the first time.... but, I'd really like to get it working for the verada first and start again for the disco. Need to remove the washer bottle and battery just to get at the back of the lights in the verada.
Thanx all for your help
Stevo
BTW, does the Disco have pos or neg switched lights ???
