thanks again mate![]()
another way is the rocking (not rhythm) method.
When one set of valves are at TDC 'rocking' (Inlet closing, exhaust opening) a corresponding set are at TDC on a compression stroke, so you adjust that pair. Can't actually recall the order, I've been doing it that way for so long, I just instinctively go for ther next pair...
And to turn the engine over, I just stick the 'box in 5th and hook the winch up to the gate post and inch it forward for the next adjustment.![]()
hey that winch trick sounds good to me i dont like the idea of turning over a diesel by hand i aint no spring chicken any more![]()
when I have to do the Patrol, I just hook it up to the Landy winch as well.
Only took me three years to work that one out, I used to push the buggers in gear to turn the engine over....![]()
apologies but when I did mine I dont recall taking off any coolant or intercooler hoses-why do you need to do this-or is this a defender thing that doesnt apply to discos????![]()
I think that bloke recommended doing it that way so it was easy to turn the engine over. Couldn't be bothered making that much work for myself.
Dont worry i dont plan on removing the fan or radiator seems like work and i like short cuts comes from being lazy![]()
Tappits on a TDi... Piece of p1ss.![]()
Think "Rule of 9". When the 1st valve is open, adjust valve number 8... 8+1=9. When no. 3 down, adjust 6... etc....
To turn the engine over, I disconnect the fuel solenoid on the fuel pump (it's that single wire on the fuel pump) and then turn the engine over on the starter.![]()
