    Ticking Clutch

    I've noticed lately on my TDI Disco that while the clutch is engaged i get a slight ticking/chattering noise on idle, and when I am driving i can notice the ticking alot more around the 2200 rpm to 2600rpm mark in every gear. I don't have any problem with my clutch it never slips and i get a good gear change all the time. Has anyone had this problem to that may be able to help.

    Ticking Clutch

    I have a similar noise. Mine is definitely speed related not engine rev related. ie the faster you go the faster it ticks. Would the clutch do the same thing?

    Being speed related it won't be the clutch.

    I had a speed related "tick"...turned out to be one of the front driveshaft universal joints...eventually one of the four uni bearings failed.

    a ticking noise that increases with speed not revs.....is usually a stone or similar
    in the tyre tread.....

    Not a "funny comment".
    I can back this up. I sometimes use a dirt road to go to work and on the run to town I often have this ticking. In my case it is always due to stones being stuck in the tread of the Grabber Tyres.

    There are often very simple explanations for problems, it does not always require a feat of engineering to overcome most of them. Correct diagnoses goes a long way to staying on the road. You can always continuing driving till whatever it is breaks, then the cause will be obvious.
